social security is a bunch of fucktards.

Mom looked at her bank statement for this month and saw that she hadn't been deposited her money from Social Security this month. She called the local office to see what the problem was.

"My monthly Social Security stipend hasn't been deposited to my bank account, and I need to know what's wrong."
"Okay, ma'am, what's your name."
*gave name*
"Oh, we're mailing you your checks now."
"Why...? They've always been set up for direct deposit."
"Is there a problem, ma'am?"
"Yes, there's a problem. I don't have this check you're talking about, and it was supposed to be direct deposited in my bank account 2 weeks ago."
"That's odd. We're mailing it to your home address."
"Apparently not."
"I'm sorry, I don't understand... So you don't live in Gretna?"
"Never in my life."
"... and you don't live on Whitney Street...?"
"Never in my life."
"..."

The Social Security office thought it would do good to stop her direct deposit and start mailing her her checks... but they had the wrong street and even the wrong city. They "looked her up in the system" instead of actually calling, asking her permission and getting her actual address.

So now we are short $800 to pay this month's bills because of their stupidity.

Catholic Charities won't help her. So she's trying to get an appointment with the priest at our church to see if we can borrow money for a month, possibly 2, until this mess gets straightened out. I'm not sure if he'd do it for just anyone, but they're good friends. I wouldn't be surprised if he helped her, though. He's a really great guy.

I'm starting to hate Social Security. They're dealing with a case of mine, too. The person that read my case didn't know what they were talking about. But then again the guy that took my history at the psych office they send people to for evaluations didn't write things down correctly either.

A bitchy lady wrote me back and said that my case had no merit because "at 23, surely you could have done SOME kind of work." Last time I checked, you're not supposed to write your nasty personal opinions in a professional government agency letter to someone. But then my case worker wrote me, too, apparently, and said things much more tactfully, and without that sentence in it. At least he knows what he's doing.

I requested an appeal. On the letter from Bitchy Lady, she said, "You stated that your disability began in April of 2002," which isn't true. I said that that's when I hurt my back. But that everything wrong with me was caused by congenital defects we didn't know about until now. On the appeal form, in the space for the question "Why do you feel that you deserve a hearing to take place?" I wrote them back, "You're fucktards that don't know what you're reading or talking about, or else you'd know that my medical issues are congenital. You could have looked that up in a dictionary, but apparently you're too lazy. That means born with and never going away. My disability could not have begun in April 2002 like you claim I said." Well, not technically. I... edited it for tact and professionalism. But I left Teh Angry in there.

I have yet for my hearing to be scheduled though. And I'm not doing it for the money. Though if I get it until I graduate and/or can get a job, it would certainly help.

I just don't like the fact that the more we deal with them, the more fucktardation we find. >_>

Matt slanderouspanic suggested I tell WBRZ Channel 2 and The Advocate newspaper. Like he said, if there's anything SSI doesn't want, it's media attention on one of their fuck-ups. "A mother and daughter are getting screwed by Social Security. News 2 uncovers the web of lies and incompetence in one of the government's most trusted agencies tonight at 10!" But that would be sensationalist reporting, as good as it sounds. May or may not do that. Probably not. *evil smirk* It sure sounded good, though.

fucktardation, social security
