We had a busy and tiring weekend yet again and I could use some more sleep today!
On Friday after work, I headed up towards my hometown & to my dad's house. On the way, I stopped for an eyebrow wax by the lady who did my wedding makeup - it's been much too long, but my eyebrows are looking good now! I got to talk to my brother while I was driving which was exciting because he's been at sea for a couple of weeks. He has a lot of exciting news right now between being on track to get a degree and advancing up a rank after passing a tough exam so it was nice to catch up with him. He's still at sea for another week or so and then we can continue talking on a regular basis again.
On Saturday I spent the day at the Relay for Life. It's the big fundraiser for the American Cancer Society & it has kind of become my family's pet charity. It's a 24 hour event with a real community spirit that raises awareness and funds for a great charity. My hometown has been holding a Relay for the past 7 or so years and we've been involved all along in various ways. I have been a team captain for about 5 years now and always put together a little team of friends & family who bring along other friends & family so we have a small group of people raising a bit of money. I wasn't able to devote much time to fundraising or recruiting this year, but I had 9 people on my team and we raised at least $1,450 with some additional checks still coming in late. Not a lot, but a little is better than nothing. A couple of my high school girlfriends, some of their families, my dad, his wife, my SIL, Chris & I spent the day at the Relay walking, visiting, snacking & having a great time. My dad & I were each there from at least 8:30 am to 10:30 pm and the others filtered in & out all day long. We didn't cover the overnight walking shifts on our team, but the event did continue until 10:00 yesterday morning. Being out in the sun all day & walking a ton wore me out! I conked out when my head hit the pillow on Saturday night & had a tough time dragging myself out of bed yesterday morning.
Yesterday, Chris & I drove back from my dad's house, unloaded the car & took a nap. We had to go back out last night for the employee previews of the new Finding Nemo ride at Disneyland (here's the Wiki article on it). It's opening next week but we got to ride last night & it was really really cute. Just the drive & the preview took up the whole day! Chris has been working on various aspects of the ride opening so he'll be at the media opening next weekend too which means I'll be home alone yet again!
Tonight the Twins are playing the Angels so SIL is coming down & we're all going to the game. Tomorrow, SIL is sticking around our place to let the washing machine repair man in. We figure that's fair because it broke when she was using it, haha. Good thing she hasn't started working yet! Cross your fingers that it's an easy / cheap repair!
