Earlier I was thinking about dæmons and I thought to myself, "Nicole, you know there aren't enough dæmons in Smallville; you should do something about that." Then later I thought, "No, that's a bad idea, you've got way too much to do to start another story." However, between thought one and two, I came up with dæmons for three different characters. So, I thought I'd share:
Clark's dæmon is a cat. Which is just another weird thing about Clark, because he's not a cat person (I've seen cat people. He's nothing like them). But the truth is his dæmon isn't actually a cat at all, it's a Kryptonian animal that happens to look indistinguishable from a cat. When it's female. It's a sexually dimorphic species. That I made up. Called a storiki.
Anyway....
Lionel's is a snake, some kind of pit viper, though I'm not sure which. Mostly because I equate snake dæmons with being sorted into Slytherin. It means you're definitely ambitious and clever, and most likely you're also an evil elitist bastard.
Finally Lex is a squirrel. Which sounds ridiculous but bear with me. First, think of a squirrel. They're bright, inquisitive animals that are always up to something. Granted, Lex is a bit less hyperactive than your average squirrel, but otherwise think it fits. Secondly, on a more cosmic note, a squirrel is a largely unimpressive seeming animal, which fits in with the universe's m.o. of dumping on Lex all the time, either directly or indirectly by giving Lionel more excuses to do so. And finally, it's all the adversity that Lex has to face that makes him into what he is, a TOTAL BADASS. Here's what you need to know about squirrels. They are not like mongooses; they don't prey on snakes. As long as the snake stays out of the squirrel's territory, squirrels are willing to live and let live. But if the snake gets up in the squirrel's business, the squirrel
will fuck that shit up! That snake will be slithering away in terror by the time the squirrel is done.
So, those are my thoughts. Agree, disagree, have ideas for other characters' dæmons?
