music=life

i love it when people relate music to life.

today's analogy: george lewis III, a trombonist and jazz musician has created this music program called voyager.
"In performance, the software, running on a portable computer, 'listened' via a microphone to Lewis' trombone improvisation, came to quick conclusions about what Lewis had played, then generated a response that seemed to make appropriate decisions about melody, harmony, orchestration, ornamentation, rhythm, and silence. In Lewis' words, 'The idea is to get the machine to pay attention to the performer as it composes.'"

as lewis was introducing his creation, he talked about the input parameters and how you could set it up to ignore you. he then went on to say how his program is a metaphor for human relations. sometimes in order to gain attention, you must ignore someone. the act of ignoring allows you to later assert your relationship and make it more intimate.
