I will definitely be making sure I can make the Friday night at a Con the next time I attend one. Only being there for Saturday and Sunday seemed far too short.
I did not actually attend very many pannels. I attended more readings than anything else. I also had a wonderful time visiting with the Czerneda NewGroup conglomerate.
I also took the chance to show off my wedding pictures and made sure to point out the Stellar Magpie creations that I was wearing as well as the bridal party.
larah33 was awesome with giving me a space to crash and a ride from the bus terminal to the hotel. Even with her car being "sick" we discovered that taking the TTC was fairly painless and did not make us late Sunday morning.
One of the neatest things that occured at the con was the Under Cover of Darkness game. You were given a package that you had to solve the riddles in order to determine who was the one behind the whole thing. I did not participate directly, but the people whom I saw play had a wonderful time and it was fun to watch. It also was the best advertising they could have done for the book launch Sunday at the Con as well as for the book in general.
Jana, Karina and Sarah did an awesome job organizing and implementing the event.
There are so many wonderful people that I got to visit and talk with it was amazing. There just wasn't enough time in my opinion. It is so nice to go to something like Ad Astra and be with people who understand my fears about being sending out my writing. Who are supportative, who offer great advice, who are incredibly talented and caring individuals.
I will not embarass a certain Newgroupie whom I was very much amused by their drunken state Saturday night when they arrived at the dance. Not to mention the running commentary the person provided when I walked them back to their room when they unsuccessfully tried to leave by themselves. Though it did amuse me that the person's room mates tried to convince them that they had hurt my back.
For the record I did not injure my back at Ad Astra. My shoulder just spasmed so badly after I had been dancing for about an hour that the pain travelled down the right side of my back.
The only injury that occured at Ad Astra was me smacking my head off the granite counter that surrounded the pay phones when I was sitting on the floor watching Jihane give a tarot reading to
wood_dragon. The kind
ksumnersmith found me ice and something to put the ice into so I did not have a lump.
Then there was wonderful conversation with a great group of people that stretched more many more hours. It is the first time I have been at the hotel the Con was held at and the Con was completely over.
I also had company on my bus ride back to KW as
wood_dragon also was taking the bus. We both slept... something about having had a late Saturday night dancing and being up early the following morning.
I have a renewed faith in myself as a writer. I have renewed pool of creativity to draw from and darn it, I am going to send a story out this year if it's the last thing I do.
Now I just have to wait patiently for my last reader to give me his thoughts and then decide from there what major changes I am going to make, what stays the same and what needs some polishing.
So despite being incredibly tired today. It was worth it. Thankfully my work comes to me :D The toddlers are being silly on the carpet. One is driving the fisher price airplane around and around and around while the other one "talks" on one of the toy phones and carrying a baby doll.
