DETROIT -- The Red Wings head to Calgary with a commanding 2-0 games lead in their Western Conference playoff series after a first-period blitz by Detroit Sunday that the Flames could not overcome.

The Wings scored two goals in the first 3:50 of the game and hung on for a 3-1 victory at Joe Louis Arena. Game 3 is Tuesday at 10 p.m.

Pavel Datsyuk and Nick Lidstrom scored in the first. Datsyuk's goal -- his second of the series -- came just 62 seconds into the game.

The Wings were the better skating team and controlled play for much of the game. However, the Flames were able to slow the game down in the second period and defenseman Dion Phaneuf scored at the 2:42 mark to make it 2-1.

The Flames were buzzing again in the third period but Vaitteri Filppula scored his second goal of the series, on a rebound, to hold off the Calgary attack.

The Wings have outshot Calgary 97-35 through two games by outskating and outhitting the Flames.

"I think we got a good jump and they battled hard and had a good second period," Wings center Kris Draper said immediately following the game during a television interview. "Now we've got two good (victories) but certainly not enough to win a series."

During the 1st intermission Michigan State's hockey team had a special presentation at the Joe. COOL! :D
