Today, I finally decided I should go see The Passion of Christ. About two weeks ago my devoutly southern baptist father decided that it was the most accurate portrayal of the event he had ever seen and that he must share such a moving work with his baby boy. I got a weird phone call from my dad asking me if I had seen the movie and then he told me he would pay my way to go see it. He initially offered to send me twenty dollars and then increased the offer to forty and said I should take a date (with a straight face). Initially I scoffed at the idea of actually going and decided I would spend the money innapropriately (interpret that as you choose) and just download The Passion, or just BS my way through it with my dad. I mean it's not like there are too many twists and turns in the plot. However, I then started to wonder if I would be struck down by God if I were to steal The Passion, and I thought of those touching infomercials played before movies about the stuntmen who consider downloading movies the same as stealing candy bars, and I decided that I respect copyrights (www.respectcopyrights.org). So, today, instead of doing anything remotely productive, I thought I would throw the old man a bone and go check out the flick. I was curious about it mainly because of all the controversey surrounding it. Blaise seemed to be particularly worked up about it, but I guess it's alright because he's Jewish. But anyway, the movie was pretty amazing. As a film, it was very well done. However, I feel the topic is a little played out and honestly don't find watching people die for two hours all that appealing. I had to leave early because it was way too damn graphic. I really couldn't hang. When they put the stake by my man JC's hand, I knew there was no way I could stomach watching them drive it through his hand. I got up, left, and hit up Chipotle on the way home. I don't really understand why it is so controversial, the film pretty much played out the way the Bible said it did. But then again, I guess it all occurs in the New Testament which is too trendy for the Jewish community to accept. Please don't consider this me choosing a side in this whole mess, I consider myself agnostic. I just have a strong background in Christianity because my father made me go to church three times a week until I was fifteen, and I'm a cynical bastard.
