Santa Maria, California

Well, we left for California on Friday night around 5pm. We made it around 4am on Saturday and camped out in the truck in the parking lot in front of our apartment building. Which is a bit farther from the school than we thought but it should be ok because there is a bus stop in front that if needs be Chris can ride to get home from the school.

So, Saturday we started to move all our things in which took a bit of work. Finding the office was hellish since they own 4 complexes and we went through all of them before finally finding it. Then I forgot that our move in amount needed to be in money order form so we had to go to the 7-eleven down the street to find an ATM and get money. This was the point when Uncle Earl and my Dad decided to leave to return to Az.

Chris and I then moved everything in and finished around dinner time. We then set out to grocery shop. We found this cheap grocery store (open 24-7) that is a mixture of costco and food city? Anywho we stocked up on goods and then went to Kmart....yes KMart to buy a few houseware items we discovered we needed like a recycling bin, towel hangers and a fan. Our apartment has no Airconditioning but its cool because its at max 70 degrees here.

Um, then Sunday we decided to take it to the streets and simply drive around to see just how small things really are. We browsed the mall for about 10 minutes (it too is tiny) and eventually decided to get a map and drive around some more. We ended up in a small 15 building town called Orcutt outside of Santa Maria. It was so cute and small, I really liked walking around the place. We then drove around some parks and farms looking for fresh cherries but none were to be found. The sign lied. But our explorations were fun and we ended up back at home to eat the yummy roast we left in the crock pot around 5 and decided to call it a night.

Today we have thus far gone to school to get a parking permit and browse again. And to keep with the themes Allan Hancock College is small. But cute, I might come home with a few "hey, I went to this college" type of  shirts and such. We then decided to take some side road that had some huge houses on it and got a bit side tracked in this housing development because the houses were amazing. We took some pictures, saw a cat and then got back on Main street to head to the beach. And that too amazingly easy to get to. Only spend about 30 minutes at the beach because it was cold and really windy. But we saw the beach, the dunes and some little kids playing.

Tomorrow we start working. Well, we have orientation. Not sure what else that holds we dont have any other information, but it was nice to have a few vacation days to enjoy before jumping into the program.

Ill post again soon to keep you all updated.

All my love
