So I've been getting the torrents for In Plain Sight, which is on the USA network on Sunday nights. Oooh, we loves it, Precious.... The first ep especially is kinda-sorta horrible, but in that "this is terrible, but omg I want more" kind of way. Let me put it this way: the first ep, I noticed that the computer screen said "Authorized Personel Only" - and I kept watching.
Some of the characters are pretty one-dimensional (or are obviously still being molded as they go), and other than the first ten minutes of the series, I can happily ignore the entire Mom & Sister storylines. But, the perks:
1 - Mary McCormack, whose name I recognize but I can't fit into anything I've actually watched before. *shrug* But apparently lots of people can.
2 - Paul Ben-Victor, aka Hobbes from Invisible Man. Complete with an episode guest-starting Vincent Ventresca, or however you spell his name.
3 - Cristian de la Fuente, aka Kyle's Boyfriend Aaron from The Class. Alas, he is only in a few episodes. But he's shirtless!
4 - Frederick Weller (Robocop's younger, hotter cousin). Wonderfully snarky, dry sense of humor, tempered perfectly by moments of total sincerity. I want a Marshall.
5 - The snark. omg, the snark. It flows freely, yet without the whole "sorry, but real people don't banter that quickly and cleverly" issue I have with a lot of shows. It's a beautiful thing, it is.
6 - UST. And UST done *right*. It's what caught my eye in the previews, it was totally pushed aside in the first few eps and it was totally okay, and now it's there but it's not whack-you-over-the-head-and-take-over-the-whole-plot. Oooh, pretty.
So yeah, it's fun stuff. The storylines don't make you think that hard, yet the plot twists aren't completely transparent. It's not gonna win an Emmy, and if it wasn't on USA it probably wouldn't even air all the eps it's shot (although who knows, in this aftermath of the Writers' Strike), but hey. I like Popcorn.
