more impressions
The conference began yesterday under auspicious circumstances: the faintest of rains produced the most vibrant rainbow I have ever seen. A second, fainter specimen echoed it from even higher in the cloudy sky. So far, the meeting itself has been nice enough. The conference hotel is embarrassingly bigger, nicer, and more modern than any other hotel in the area. I received some good advice about my thesis at the doctoral consortium yesterday, and the workshop today had some interesting talks. I think I tried to follow too many of them and fried my brain; I've always preferred the workshops that have a greater discussion element, instead of just being a bunch of additional technical sessions like the ones at the main conference. Speaking of which, I still don't think I've caught up on sleep. We all seem to get tired so early....
I was just reminded over IM that among the conference schwag is a bottle of port! Kurt and Matt are lamenting not being able to take it on the plane, not having checked any bags....
