one is gold, the other is golder

Yesterday morning I drove down to Maryland, and this morning I drove back. In addition to my usual visit to see Katie, I also got to see Triften's new house. Both houses are in a state of active renovation, which aroused in me the usual ambivalence about renting. On the one hand, I sure am glad I don't have to mess around with our apartment. On the other hand, it sure would be nice to change some of the apartment's suboptimal features. (For example, the Time Warner technician simply couldn't get the cable outlet near the XBox 360 to work, so without going into the wall, we're stuck with either our 50-foot ethernet cable to the bedroom or shelling out money for a wireless adapter.)

Aside from the preview into the joys of home ownership, I also received the usual sample of what-is-Katie-watching-now, which invariably leads me to want to buy even more DVDs I don't have time to watch. This visit's briefing featured a cute Nickelodeon cartoon called Avatar: The Last Airbender, which looks extremely well crafted. I also finally got to try my hand at Guitar Hero at Triften's place. We also watched some MythBusters and Good Eats on the Tivo. Throw in a home-cooked meal and some catching up, and you have plenty of ingredients for some good old-fashioned hanging out with old friends, well worth the extended day trip.
