I checked in with my oral surgeon today. He removed the last of the stitches and wrote on my chart, "post op negative." When asked, he reassured me that "negative" is good. Overall, I found the ordeal of losing my wisdom teeth quite tolerable. The oral surgeon's good bedside manners at every stage helped quite a bit. The most annoying consequence of the surgery has been hygienic. The assistant cleaned an amazingly disgusting amount of food particles from the space formerly occupied by my bottom wisdom teeth. She gave me my own doohickey-that-emits-a-tiny-jet-of-water, so I can clean the sockets myself until they heal. Hopefully now I can get away from that barely detectable odor of rotting food that has been bugging me for a week.
I won another game of Das Zepter von Zavandor, the Outpost repackaging. I think the gameplay of these games just happens to match my intuitions about strategy games. The moves that feel right more often prove right. Of course, consistently drawing good cards also helps a little.
We played the
second greatest Tichu hand of all time. After the pass I held AKQQT987654321. If
rupes had passed me a jack instead of a queen, I could have begun the round with a length-fourteen straight. Instead I called Tichu and led the length-ten straight.
zml almost stopped me, reducing to a singleton in front of my AK. Adam got in and led a queen, stifling Zach's singleton queen and allowing me to go out. Unable to resist table-talking, I had been cracking up about my hand the entire time, but the truly funny part I only learned afterwards. Adam had also been going for a length-fourteen straight, and would have had it if I had passed the 1!
