"For anyone who thinks the FDA might be a good thing...
I know that most people here don't believe that the FDA is a good thing, but you know someone who does. This person believes that drug companies will intentionally poison people to turn a profit. These person believes that without the close inspection of drugs by the government people will die. This person is helping to kill my mother.
My Mom has a fairly rare disease, a mold that crystializes in her lungs. It is killing her. She is slowly sufficating. Soon she will die. It has been about a year since she was diagnosed, shortly after she beat cancer. Currently her only hope is to live four more years so she has a chance for a lung transplant.
There is, however, a new drug that could stop and possibly correct some of the crystalization. She can't have it. No amount of money can legally get it in this country. The FDA isn't through declaring it safe for terminally ill people. They don't want anyone to die from a faulty drug... Instead, they let my mother suffer and die from a disease.
I often joke that my government is working hard to ammuse me. Today, I'm not ammused. Today, I can't bring myself to make that joke. I didn't post this because I want sympathy, I don't. I want us to pull our heads out of our asses and and act like we mean it when we say that we want to run our own lives. Our government is protecting us to death. "

I so passionately hate my government, and any other government for that matter. It is this fucked up world in which I (without disclosing the source before-hand) qoute the Declaration of Independance, the Constitution, along with other writtings by Patrick Henry, Thomas Jeffereson, Ben Franklin, Thomas Paine, George Washington, and am called un-American, a traitor, idealistic beyond this world, and a murderer by my sheep of a mother (and others).
