Klan Klein held her salute to the Macross Quarter as the ship tore itself free from its tethers to Battle Frontier. Moments later N.U.N.s variable fighters streaked out to intercept the hijacked ship. She shook her head sadly wishing Alto and Luca had taken her lead and discovered engine problems with their mecha.
Moments later, her not-so-damaged power armor, taxied to a stop into a seemingly unoccupied hanger bay. Climbing out, she blinked in surprise seeing Nene wistfully standing before a large viewport having watched the same events unfold. “I wouldn’t have stopped you if you wanted to go pirate.” She said while removing her helmet.
“I am Zentradei,” Nene replied solemnly. ”The Vajara killed my love. Right or wrong, I can not leave this battlefield." The words rocked Klan on her heels; her heart had echoed a similar sentiment upon hearing Captain Wilder's call to desert.
“Your love?” Klan murmured to herself. She had no idea. Her mind raced trying to fit together pieces of memory for some sort of clue. “Was it Lt. Gilliam?” Her question was greeted by Nene's soft chuckling.
“Henry was a dear comrade,” The other Meltran said fondly, “But no. We were never lovers.” She paused choosing her words with care, “Klan, we never meant to keep a hurtful secret…” She placed a comforting hand on her leader’s shoulder. “Raramia and I had grown so used to keeping things between us it had become second nature." Nene sniffed and brushed a stray tear from her eye. "It was almost silly, but she kept pushing it off to after the next sortie, then the next...then it was too late.”
"Rora-San..."
"It's okay." Nene replied with a sad smile. "This ache is mine alone. You have your own to worry about, Captain." The taller women women stepped back into a salute before making her way out of the hanger.
Klan would only watch her friend's departure in silence.
Author's Notes 2: Going to be evil now and say it will be awhile before Wingmates gets completed. I'll be without 'net access and out of the country for the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I can work on this the old fashioned way during that time.
