sick, and also tired

My school let out for Spring Break, so naturally my immune system went somewhere warm and sunny, leaving me in wet, snowy Chicago with a nasty head cold.

I'm spending today writing a case study for Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy, due via email on Monday afternoon. I got to pick any substantial fictional character from literature, television, or film to be my client for the study. I chose Sarah Connor. I spent Thursday watching the first two movies and a handful of T:SCC eps preparing for this thing, and I'm kind of excited about it. If it turns out well I might post it here, as meta. We'll see.

Other things going on this week: I have three interviews lined up for my internship in the fall. One on Monday, the other two on Tuesday. I'm still waiting to hear from the other three sites I applied to. I ought to at least get a head start on some of the assignments due the week after the break, and I still have to go to work. All that, and I'm seriously jonesing to record some podfic. I have my two epics waiting for me, and I just volunteered to look at some stories in Fringe, T:SCC, and BSG fandoms to possibly record.

Thoughts about last night's SPN:

I had a bad feeling when the wife in the opening sequence got a hammer to the skull that the episode was going to be problematic. I love this show to pieces, and I thought the final scene at Rufus's grave was really moving. But seriously, oh my god, what the everloving fuck. Other people have already said it a lot better than I can, but why do women and non-Whites always end up dead or evil on this show? The casual way in which Gwen was murdered really bothers me. Dean might have been possessed by evil herpes when he did it, but he sure got over it quick. Everyone did. I wish this show wouldn't force me to compartmentalize so much in order to continue to enjoy it.

I miss T:SCC. It had its weak spots, but on the whole it was such an amazing show. Sarah, Cameron, Riley, Jessie, Catherine Weaver, and even Savannah were all badass in their own rights. And okay, it only had one black guy, but Ellison was consistently portrayed as smart, capable, and the moral center of the show. T:SCC moved me, and sometimes seriously disturbed me (the scene between John and Cameron in the finale? On the bed, with him on top of her? Holy fuck.), but it never required me to turn a blind eye to misogyny or racism. I miss it so much.

Enough ranting. I need to get back to my paper.

With any luck, I'll have some new podfic posted in the next week or so. Wish me luck.
