All is silence.

It was the silence that finally got me to listen. I don't post often. I am more of a lurker. In fact, I have more comments than posts. That's because I used livejournal as a passive means of keeping up with my friends. All of them with livejournals anyway. I don't regret that my family all chose myspace instead. I don't think I could stand knowing what their final words would have been tonight.

I thought you were all having a fun time. A little cooperative storytelling, some light roleplaying and everyone wakes up feeling a little closer tomorrow. So I lurked, read, and listened to the lack of screams and gunshots to verify what my friends were writing about. Nothing but silence.

Eventually that seemed odd too though. I live on a busy street. There's a drunk party outside every night of the week. And I live just down the street from a retirement home. I hear sirens twice a day. But tonight, nothing. That is why I decided to climb up into the attic when I heard glass shatter downstairs.

Michelle and the two cats are fine. We snagged her laptop so that we could keep abreast of the news. At least as long as the wireless connection holds out. We heard them moving around downstairs for awhile. They broke some stuff. Snuffled through our laundry, climbed around on our bed. Anything that smelled like us. They did that for about twenty minutes, then it got quiet. I know they didn't leave the house. I know they are still here, only the thin chalkboard ceiling between them and us. But they aren't making any noise. Are they quiet because they can't find us, or are they quiet because they know exactly where we are?

I thought that this would be over quickly. US has the infrastructure to handle anything, right? You were all having such success. Barelyproper, Loupyone, your posts kept me listening. But I've been refreshing for four hours now... nothing. I'm connected, but there aren't anymore posts. Is there nothing left to say? Has the whole world gone silent in four hours?

I just want to hear from someone, anyone. Anything other than silence. Please?
