i few years ago, and a few years after finishing my BFA, i started a self-imposed project to recreate
Berenice Abbott's Changing New York photo collection. first self-imposed, then funded by the Federal Art Project, she documented the life and look of NYC in the 1930s. unfortunately, my project halted when i realized
someone else had the bright idea to do the same thing. ah well, great minds and all that. one thing it did teach me, though, was to look up. so much going on down on the streets of the city. but there's a lot of beauty above, too.
oh cool, here is
another photographer inspired by Berenice Abbott's work.
so as a photo researcher, with my head in the dusty archives all day (figuratively, but sometimes literally), i'm on a mission for another project to bring some other photographic gems to light, and learn something along the way. any ideas?
