Aguascalientes and it's eponymous capital is one of the least corrupt most successful Mexican states with some of the highest quality of life. 2 million denizens, universal health coverage, 25 universities. Recognized by the IMF as the best place to invest in Mexico, it is home to 70% of Japanese investment in the country. In April, not to be outdone by Sevilla, it hosts the national fair of Mexico, 'La Feria de San Marcos', St. Mark being the patron saint of the city. Thirty days of expositions -agricultural mostly-, concerts, nigh clubs, theater, folk dance, ballet, bulls (the best serial in America), cowboys (charros actually), cockfights (for gambling), casinos, symphony, rides, 222 acres of exhibits. 7 million visitors and some of the most beautiful people you can imagine. Over 2000 events with 80% of them free of charge. Truly a populist spectacle, but with high class entertainment around every turn, truly an exclusive spectacle too. I cannot stop watching this video and I am convinced that I have to go for the 2010 celebrations of the bicentennial. Who's coming with me?
