L.A. Rules #1

Katzman pointed out to me that he went to a baseball game in the snow last weekend. Also, I use the terms Spring and Summer rather interchangeably. It's one of the benefits of living here, Winter ends early and fall starts late, and in between it's just one nice sunny day with morning fog along the coast, and cloudy inland until the burnoff at 11:00am. L.A. weather reporters have it made.

That's not actually true, since I live in the San Fernando Valley, a lot of my Summer is spent in weather that is unbearable to most people, but pleasantly sticky to me. That is why I tend to leave for Mexico that time of year.

Anyway, the spring/summer chimera season to me is defined by the manic half of my Seasonal Affectation.

So, I don't know much about baseball, I'm a bad fan of the sport that way. I am not good at names and statistics and strategies etc. I do however know that in one respect, Dodger's fans are or should be the envy of all of baseball and that other very popular sport which closely approximates baseball. (No, not cricket, I mean American League baseball.) We have Vin Sculley, and you my dear friend do not. Can you imagine the Mona Lisa being a docent at the Louvre, or the Hope diamond curating the Smithsonian?

There is no more satisfying sound on earth than the sound of Vin Sculley calling the game.

I hope to by the end of the season know enough about baseball to be able to defend that purposely incendiary statement about the DH.

Happy opening day Dodger's fans and well-wishers. And welcome home Mr. Schmidt.

baseball, summer, spring, dodgers, vin sculley
