WOOOTT!
My current file server is dying a slow death. Each day it gets more and more HD and IDE controller errors. I was hoping to hold on until we could buy a SUPEROMGAWESOME server, but I doubt that'll happen anytime soon with our money plans.. at least not soon enough to save our data.
So I keep purusing Ebay for items. I decided last night that tower servers were going to be my answer to a short depth closet.
But then I found a Rackable 1/2 depth server with 4 SATA bays. SATA was important because SCSI is expensive, and IDE is....Old (not many being made anymore, and they're expensive when compared to larger capacity SATA drives)
At any rate. Sambu gets a facelift for like $100. Woot. Winner. I was excited when I found the same type of thing for $250 - thinking, "I'd spend that much updating my current box, so why not just buy that, as soon as I save up the money". Then i found this one. Comes with 4 250gb HD, which will get me started with more than enough room for now, with RAID mirroring.
Worth spending my spending money and some house money on it. yes.
(not to mention our data will be safe.. for a little while at anyrate)
If none of that made any sense, I got a new computer to store our files on!
