Elton John - Sad Songs (Say So Much)
Staind - Outside
This place has a really extensive catalog, and the crowd was reasonable. Unfortunately there were some pretty major negative points as well:
- They can do key changes, but not more than 3 half-steps. That ruled out Someone Saved My Life Tonight, which I had been meaning to do, but I need a -4 for.
- They have Life is a Rock (But the Radio Rolled Me) listed in their songbook, but the KJ couldn't get it to work.
- They have the crappy Pop Hits Monthly track of Outside, which has most of the lyrics wrong and omits the entire second verse.
- The KJ plays two songs between each singer.
That last one is inexcusable. I could have gotten in five or six songs tonight, if it weren't for that. If there's anybody in line then the KJ shouldn't be wasting time. Otherwise they might as well just turn on the jukebox and not have a karaoke night.
Speaking of inexcusable, I went to the Four Farthings after Celtic Crown. It was packed and super noisy, and right after I arrived, their KJ decided to sing two songs in a row. I just left without getting my song in.
This all brings home to me that I was really spoiled in Nebraska. I haven't found KJs anywhere near as good as Myk and Gee here.
