Spoilers: Forsaken
Once, Lea was proud to be allied with the Vanguard. Once, she was happy to serve under their command and aid humanity and the solar system via missions, strikes, whatever they threw at her or asked her to do.
Not anymore.
There had been too many changes, too much frustration built up for her to still want to belong with them.
First, their apathy when Ghaul attacked. They just… gave up. They didn’t even try. They lost their Light and decided to sit around, depressed and hopeless until she dropped by to give them a few choice words to think about.
Lea herself knew what it felt like to be without Light, even if it only lasted for about a week or two until she was restored to her former strength by the shard of the Traveller. She remembered the fear, the anger. And she remembered not giving up, despite losing her Light.
The only one that had an idea or any kind of plan other than how to sit around and do nothing was Cayde-6. Even if she didn’t usually appreciate his antics, she was glad that at least someone wanted to fight back without giving up right away. He earned her respect the day she freed him from the Vex teleportation he had gotten himself stuck in.
Even if at first she was annoyed by having to help him, the moment she learned of his reasons, she understood. They didn’t really become friends, but she had a more positive relationship towards him.
His death hit her hard.
Zevala’s refusal to avenge Cayde-6 enraged her. She wasn’t going to just let him die and move on without even considering revenge. Any resemblance of respect left for the Titan Vanguard, she had lost that day. And there hadn’t been much of it to begin with. She was disappointed by his defeatist attitude, then annoyed by his refusal to work with Ana Bray and even more so by his negativity towards just about anything that didn’t have Vanguard seal of approval or was on top of his priority list.
He called it ‘careful’. She called it ‘cowardly’.
At least Ikora helped her with Cayde-6’s revenge. She wouldn’t be the last to do things behind Zevala’s back.
To Lea, the Vanguard was in shambles, perhaps unsalvageable. There was no Hunter Vanguard to take up Cayde-6’s spot, the Titan Vanguard was for all intents and purposes a useless coward, hiding behind ‘safety for humanity first’ and ‘these aren’t our fights’. Ikora… she was alright. Lea got along well enough with her, but she didn’t offer much in regards to missions, so she only dropped by the Warlock every now and then, perhaps once a week.
She stopped caring about what the Vanguard used to stand for after the Festival of the Lost came and went. Perhaps she wouldn’t even be sad if they broke apart completely.
