Movieverse:

Real tree or artificial?

Real, but live, so it can be planted afterward. Timmy wouldn't want to kill a tree.

Do the guys snoop looking for where the presents are hidden?

Donald snoops because he's still a ten-year-old at heart. Timmy would rather wait and be surprised on Christmas morning.

Do they decorate outside?

Yes, but sparingly and tastefully. No one suffers from Clark Griswold Fever at the Strachey-Callahan residence. Timmy is too well-bred and Donald is too lazy to cover the house in 100,000 whirling, flashing, multicolored lights or the yard in plastic Santas and ghastly inflatables. Nice wreaths on the windows and front door and a solar-powered candle shining from each windowsill would probably do it.

Bookverse

Real tree or artificial?

Artifical, though every year Timmy will wax nostalgic over the scent of pine back from his boyhood Christmases in Poughkeepsie and inform Donald that, “This hideous old thing is going in the trash the day after Christmas and we will have a real Douglas fir next year!” In reality, the tree will stay up til March 10th and they will snark over who has to take it down. In the end, Donald will because he’s done something he suspects will piss Timmy off and wants to rack up brownie points before the shit hits the fan. He will not throw it in the trash (or even bother taking off the lights or most of the ornaments) and the Douglas fir will never happen.

Do the guys snoop looking for where the presents are hidden?

Donald doesn’t snoop because he suspects his gift will be a charitable donation in his name or something similar and why search for that? He is correct, of course, though Timmy also has something more personal squirrelled away at the office, where he knows it’s safe from Donald’s prying eyes. Timmy won’t snoop because he knows Donald’s gift to him will be a trip to someplace with tropical beaches and shirtless gentlemen serving drinks featuring pineapple chunks and small umbrellas. Donald will have something more personal for him, too, but he’ll forget to take it with them on the trip and finally remember to present it around the time he takes down the tree….

Do they decorate outside?

They stick a wreath on the door and call it a day.
