Title: higher the hopes, harder the fall

Pairing: Cat/OC -Slash -

Summary: I was falling for her-- hard and fast. And it was scaring the shit out of me. / / Cats POV \ \

So she walks up to me-her clothes loud and her voice quiet.

And of course I can't help but stare.

"Listen, man-I'm sorry-but I don't think you can handle the awesomeness."

"Dude-just tell me already!"

Andre smirked and popped a grape in his mouth. I wonder what he was talking about…

"Nope."

Beck groaned and dropped his head onto the lunch table. Jade raised her eyebrows and ran her fingers absentmindedly through his hair as she ate her sandwich. I wish someone would run their fingers through my hair. It must feel nice.

Tori plopped down next to me and sat a little too close. Our thighs were touching. I gulped.

Sure, I had a tiny crush on her, but I was pretty much over it by now. I scooted over, closer to Andre. Tori moved over as well. I sighed, she was either stubborn or she couldn't take a hint. I glared at my chicken salad. Whatever it was she was in my space. People can't just get in my space.

Stupid.

Tori giggled and started talking to Andre, leaning over a little so her breasts touched my arm.

I sighed-seriously Tori?

I inwardly groaned and took a bite of my salad. If I moved even closer to Andre I'd practically be sitting on his lap, and I didn't really want to move closer to Tori either, but if I got up and left that'd be even more suspicious. So I'm stuck. In a place I really don't want to be in.

"-so did you hear about that new girl?"

I perked up a bit at this, turning to Andre who had brought it up.

"There's a new girl?"

He nodded, took a bite of his burrito, and swallowed.

"She's in the visual arts program-you know; the painting and stuff? I saw some of her oil paintings. She's really good."

"What's her name?"

Tori quietly cleared her throat so only I could her hear. I fought the urge to scowl.

"Uh… Macey Vertolo?"

Tori corrects Andre, spitting out her name like it was poison-"It's Marcy."

Andre nodded, and gave a soft "Right… right…" before getting back to his burrito and his and Beck's awesome conversation.

"-and so, a-plus five-equals seven-point-six."

I whimpered a little as Mr. Richardson kept on droning on about stupid 'algebra'. I've never really paid attention in math, it's boring, and I don't really think knowing what a plus five is will help me in showbiz-which is why my math notebook is filled with cupcakes, rainbows, and bunnies, instead of equations and blah-blah-blah. I was doodling random mushrooms that giggle and smile, but then I heard someone groan and looked up.

It was that new girl-Marcy. She had straight, dark-almost blue-black hair and vibrant orange eyes. She always wore crazy clothes, today she's wearing a black and blue baseball tee (the sleeves stopped at her elbows)-a black, Lolita styled skirt with blue lacing-she also had a black beanie.

Her voice was pretty, a nice in-between of high and low, it wasn't like a guy's voice, but It wasn't so sweet it gave me cavities either. It was just right.

I bit my lip as Marcy sighed exasperatedly and crumpled up her paper.

I looked around the room, and everyone was working on some type of math problem. I guess Mr. R gave us homework. Poo.

I sighed and flipped a page over in my notebook, wrote down my name and copied the problem off of the board. It was pretty simple-a plus three equals negative twenty-seven-but I couldn't concentrate! I looked back up at Marcy and cocked my head-does she wear contacts? I furrowed my brow and squinted, then smiled. Nope! There were tiny specks of gold and green in her eyes, something I knew for sure doesn't appear in contacts.

Marcy snapped her head up, quick as lightning. I gasped and looked down, back at my name and the little cat ears I put on top of the C. She saw me! Oh, god-oh god, oh god, oh god! I heard the scratch of a chair against linoleum, then the clacking of black combat boots. I smelled peppermint and saw blue lace. I gulped and looked up.

Marcy was biting her lip, blushing, she scratched her head and said: "Um…hey… Your Cat right?"

I nodded.

"Do you think you could help me with this?" Her orange eyes looked down at the floor and she hugged herself-Marcy was nervous.

She whispered, "I'm…I'm dyslexic…"

I blinked a few times slowly, trying not to giggle. This was what the whole fuss was about?

I smiled up at her and said sure. She smiled back at me and pulled up a chair.

All throughout math class I couldn't help but stare at her-she was gorgeous. She didn't wear loads of eyeliner like some girls do, she only had some mascara and lip gloss on; her skin was gorgeous, a mix between deathly pale and sun-kissed tan-not a blemish in sight. I zoned out a couple of times, daydreaming about us at the beach, hanging out swimming, her giving me a piggy-back ride and took me back to the car as I fell asleep-the pink and red sunset glowing behind us. Us cuddling in my car, kissing-then she'd untie the back of my bikini top-looking into my eyes as my heart hammered-

"Cat?"

I gasped and came back down to Earth, blushing furiously. Marcy smirked and looked at me dead in the eye.

"Fantasies, I presume?"

I just sat there, my mouth closing and opening, like some cute little goldfish.

Marcy burst out laughing, covering her mouth-"Dude, Cat! Relax!" She stopped laughing and smiled at me, "I was just playing around."

I swallowed; surprisingly there was a huge lump in my throat, and nodded.

"'Course."

Of course she wasn't gay-of course she didn't even know my last name-of course I had let my hopes up-again.

Of course.

(I tried not to cry.)

A/N: Hey people! I'm not dead!

I love Cat, and since I don't really think anyone was working out for her, I decided to make up someone for her!

I really want to continue this-but only if I get feedback!

And if you don't review-you've killed an innocent mushroom of Cat's. Monster.

Jade the Matchmaker

"So you really like this girl?"

I nodded, and looked down, picking at the loose ends of my sleeves.

Jade smirked, "I heard she was gay..."

This wasn't good.

She shrugged, "I guess I could hook the both of you up…"

My eyes widened as Jade walked off. Oh god.
