Jess and Heather and Drew came down to visit me. We watched “Good Company” and “Boat Trip” which was fun. I was in agonizing pain the whole time because I had an ear infection that I blame entirely on Jess. Not only did she make me go scuba diving with her, which probably tapped water in my ear, but she also kept sticking her tongue in there during her moments of passion, which probably didn’t make the problem any better. The next weekend I went to see “The Merry Wives of Windsor” at APT with my family and my cousin Amber and her fiancé Mike. It was one of the most hysterically funny plays I have ever seen. Highly recommended.
I went on another camping trip to my farm, this time with Jess and Heather and Yoh. Heather couldn’t come until 9:30 Saturday night because she was too busy sitting on a bench eating a popsicle. Jess came down on Friday night and we spent Saturday having fun alone until my mom came home. Now there are bad times for your parents to come home, and then there are worse times for your parents to come home. Later my grandparents came over and somehow I ended up burying a large dead fish in my backyard. It was a dark and stormy night as we drove up the windy dirt roads towards my farm. It was too rainy that night to make a camp fire so we just got ready for bed. I was showing them around the cabin and I was mentioning that there was a way that you could actually lock yourselves in the cabin. I went over to the door to show them this and soon realized that this is exactly what had happened to us! One of us would have to climb out the window with the keys and go around to unlock the door. We soon discovered that the only window we could get out of was on the second floor. Yoh climbed out onto a ledge to assess the situation while I held a flashlight for him. The result was that a fall form this height would lead to certain death. Jess, Heather, and I turned away from the window to find a rope for Yoh to climb down. As soon as we weren’t looking we heard a “whoooomp” and turned back to see that Yoh was no longer with us. The crazy kid just decided “screw it” and jumped blindly off the side of a building into open air. He ended up being fine and saved us from our ridiculous state of self-imprisonment. We slept-in the next morning, had s’mores for breakfast, and went on a little walk down to the stream. Jess found a random brown rock that soon became her new best friend. We came back to the cabin and decided that it was definitely time for a nap. Jess and I threw each other’s shoes and socks into a bramble patch for no reason.
Pretty soon it was time to go home. We drove up to the lovely town of Baraboo and found that they didn’t have a single place to eat. As we were getting on the highway we found a log cabin restaurant. The service was craptastic but the food wasn’t bad. Yoh got a burger, I got ribs, Heather got French toast, and Jess got turkey. Pie was good too. Unfortunately we didn’t get out of there until 9:00. First I had to take Heather to her camp in West Bend. Jess learned how to use a map and directed to take 33 straight east for about six-hundred miles. This god-awful highway decided to pass through the downtown of every little city along the way. Several times we almost missed our turn in these towns. For some reason Heather got really excited every time we passed a school bus stop. At one point we were all sitting there silently, enjoying the scenery, when Jess started screaming bloody murder at the top of her lungs. I though she must have seen a mutilated body hanging from a tree, or perhaps the guys in the car behind us were pointing shotguns at us. Nope, it was just a little spider crawling on the dashboard. Jess flung herself into the back seat and panic descended on the car. Yoh and I were yelling at Jess to calm down, Jess was yelling at me to kill it, Heather was yelling at me to not kill it, and Yoh was yelling at me to keep the car on the road. After a ridiculously long detour and a lot more confusion we finally made it to Heather’s camp. Next we had to get down to Milwaukee to drop off Yoh. Jess was sure that she knew the way, but that meant nothing. We drove past the same McDonalds playplace about six times. We would get to an intersection and Jess would say “hey, I ate pizza at that restaurant once when I was a little kid, this must be the right way!” We almost drove back to Heather’s camp just to ask her for directions. At one point we were driving along at a good clip when Jess shouted “turn hear” because she sort of remembered hearing the name of that road before. I spun the wheel violently and heard “whack” from the back of the car. I stopped and tried to think of what we had in the back of the car that had just been thrown about. A second later I heard a soft whimpering of pain and remembered that Yoh was in the back of the car. The crazy kid had been climbing around back there and didn’t have his seatbelt on, so he had flown head first into the door of the car. By sheer statistics we eventually ended up on the right road. I dropped of Yoh, then Jess, and I made it back to Madison at about 2:00 am. I got up at 4:00 am.
I’ve been working as a coffee delivery man recently; a move up from the tedious life in the packaging and production room. I am the bringer of that nurturing caffeinated nectar unto the world. I wake up at 4:00 am and usually work anywhere from an eight to thirteen hour day in the grueling heat or pouring rain. The pay is nice though. One day I got to deliver coffee to a room on the sixteenth floor of Van Hise. I had a great time finding a place to park my 12,000 pound coffee truck there. Everything was working out great until the second to last day of work when I was delivering a coffee shipment to the Steep and Brew store on the west side. I was stupidly trying to park my monstrous truck in a normal-sized car parking lot next to normal-sized cars. The task is, of course, impossible and I ended up smashing in the taillight of a minivan. When it happened I immediately looked around to make sure no one saw it. Of course the two women who owned the minivan where standing only a few yards away and saw the whole thing go down. The worst part, though, was that my dad (the owner of the coffee company) was sitting out in front of the store drinking cappuccino and having a business meeting. Way to go Nick.
Jess came to visit on Saturday. We played Resident Evil 4 and baked a huge batch of cookies. That night we went over to the Stabler’s house for dinner and then walked down to Rhythm and Booms. The fireworks were great, and so was beautiful girl lying next to me the whole time. I love Jess, I really do. It took us too long to drive home because we got stuck in traffic, but I was asleep anyway. The next day Jess and I drove back to Milwaukee. I helped Jess baby sit two boys, Logan and Devon, and a little girl named Gracy. They were really cute and we had lots of fun.
The next few days Jess and I just lounged around her house, laid in her hammock, ate way too much food, and went on a bike ride. It was slightly disappointing because it started to rain and the dead body that Jess promised to show me wasn’t there. Of course we also went to Summerfest. The first day we went with Yoh and Julie and Keaton. We ate some great food from Saz’s (Keaton was too afraid of pork sandwiches so he ate at Culvers). We saw Lewis Black and Ben Folds, which were both great. I also bought some new sunglasses. The next day we went with Jess’s friends Abby Sanchez and Ramani. We ate some great German food at Usingers and saw Styx. The area around the stage was packed with thousands of obnoxious and drunk thirty and forty year olds, but Jess lead the way and we pushed to the picnic tables in the front. We could barely even see, but the music was great and Styx put on a great show. I was having the time of my life.
Summerfest marked the beginning of the fun half of my summer. Up until now I’ve been mostly working and trying not to die. But now I’m done with work and I’m leaving for Switzerland in a few hours! Then I’ll be home for a week and then I’m off to Australia. When I return I get to go to my cousins wedding and then move back into Chad. I can’t wait.
