Almost finished with my portfolio and demo reel.

Well, this week has quickly gone from being an excellent week to being a stressful week. For one, my new computer won't boot up XP Professional. So, here's this blazing fast computer sitting next to me, and I can't use it. What's worse is that I moved my fast-ass videocard from my old computer to the new one, so my old doesn't have a video card anymore. Which means it's running even slower than before. It's almost unbearable to try and work on it. The good news is that the portfolio is DONE! Finally. After staying up till 4 or 5 in the morning for the past two weeks, it's done. Now to move onto my demo reel. The nice thing about my demo reel is that it's already 75% done. All I have to do is add in my new videos of my work and replace the old ones to update it. No major changes, which means I'm not going to be editing all day. Thank god. When it's all said and done, I should have both a finished copy of my demo reel and a finished copy of my portfolio in my hands by Sunday night. Then, I send out like 15 copies to gaming studios that are interestd.

After that, I have nothing left to do which is going to be so weird for me. For the past 3 months now, my demo reel has been my life. Getting all my work done for it, getting it edited together, making a portfolio from scratch, it's all been non-stop for me. I'm not quite sure what I'm going to do with all the free time now. Of course, I have my classes, but they are really easy this semester. I'm going to continue to work on my modeling and texturing, but I'm going to go at an easy steady pace instead of a blistering fast sprint pace. Plus the Mod game, The Governing, is winding down. Our deadline for getting any new material into the game is April 28th. It's been quite an experience. This was my first game, and I learned so much from it. While I won't get as many characters and creatures into the game as I had hoped, working on the game pushed me to create new characters. I'm amazed by how much I've progressed over the past 7 or so months. It's also changed my mindset. Instead of thinking as myself as someon learning to become a character modeler, I feel I am a character modeler. You give me any concept art or hell even an description of the character, and I can model it. I don't want to sound cocky or anything like that, it's just I'm confident in what I can do and in my profession, you have to be.

So I'm going to have quite a bit of free time on my hands after this week. Maybe I'll start concept art for new characters and creatures. That should keep me occupied. What I've really want to do is get more into painting of characters in full scenes doing something. I'm also going to really start getting into texturing, and put a lot of time into learning new techniques. I found a new way to do texturing through clay, and I'm dying to try it out. Maybe now I'll be able to start on that now.....
