So after an atypically social January I had a quiet weekend. I'm used to not doing much at the weekend but this time I really enjoyed it because of the contrast - it's good to know that I've actually made a conscious decision to have some time to myself and save money, rather than not having any other choice.
I did actually have the option to go to another coffee posse yesterday, but decided not to - partly 'cause of the cash, and partly 'cause my Mum was planning on popping round and I don't like to be rude and cancel her just because I got a better offer. She came round for a cup of tea and then wanted to have a look round the shops.
I've spent much of the weekend watching DVDs - yesterday was Superman Returns which I really enjoyed - although I still fail to see why Kate Bosworth exists. This morning I watched March of the Penguins which was interesting but, Morgan Freeman aside, wasn't really much more than the kind of documentary you end up watching and quite enjoying after channel-hopping. And then this afternoon it was Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest which I was a bit disappointed in to be honest - not anywhere near as funny as the first film, and too long, with the first hour or so just treading water. I also watched a couple of episodes of Battlestar Galactica.
I even succumbed to curiosity and watched a bit of the Hollyoaks omnibus this morning, after hearing so many good things about the long-running coming out story that's been - in a development that's unusual in most soaps and unheard of in this one - quite well written and acted. Since I only caught the tail end of a long-developed story it's hard to judge properly, but from what I saw it seemed like a pretty sincere effort, and James Sutton who plays the gay character, JP, actually has some acting ability. And in grand Hollyoaks tradition, is a bit of a cutie as well.
Bless. By the way, am I the only one who still remembers the very first ever episode of Hollyoaks? That consisted almost entirely of the theme tune being played on a constant loop for half an hour, over shots of Jeremy Edwards riding a motorcycle 'CAUSE HE'S SO THE COOL ONE AND THAT, and Will Mellor climbing in and out of windows BECAUSE HE'S THE CRAZY ONE OMG 11!!11!!!!ELEVEN!! No? Did I imagine that then?
And to top off a couch-potato weekend there was, of course, the finale of Celebrity Big Brother which I'll probably do a final post on in a day or two. Shilpa won, and Ian continued to flash his nipples even during his interview. So not a bad result all round
Now, I don't have any plans for next weekend yet, any offers? 'Cause the quiet ones are nice but they can get habit-forming, and I don't want this month to have been a one-off.
