~*~*~*~*~
Thanksgiving.
A day to be thankful for all you’d been given.
A day to celebrate.
A day to spend with family.
For the past years, for him Thanksgiving had been a trip to his past. While everyone else drove home to their friends and family, he drove in a different direction; away from his life, back to his past.
On Thanksgiving he would drive to the graveyards to visit them all; his mom who had died way to young; his buddy Cameron who had died in his arms; Shannon and Kelly, who he couldn’t protect when they’d needed him the most; Chris Pacci who he had let down the one time he’d needed him; Kate who had died right in front of him...
.
Over the years, his list had become longer and longer: Paula Cassidy had given her life to save them all. Jenny had died protecting him. Brent Langer and Michelle Lee had died in the line of duty.
Every single one of them had a huge impact on his life, and he missed them all.
Thanksgiving.
A day to be thankful for all you’d been given.
He was thankful for the time he’d been able to spend with all of them.
They were part of life. They had made him to the person he was today.
This year, however, he decided to change his routine.
This year he felt the urge to be thankful not only for what he’d lost, but for what he still had. After all they’d gone through he was thankful that they were still alive and together.
For the first time he wanted to spend the day with the family he still had. Those he’d lost weren’t forgotten - as weren’t the ones around him.
And it was time to show this to them.
