So, I haven't said much lately, for I haven't had much to say. Or rather I have felt my life too boring to speak of. Though, before that I was mostly tweeting rather than ljing anyway. And now I find myself at the point that twitter doesn't really suit any more either. If only there was some new social media bandwagon to jump upon :P ( Read more... )

You broke my heart.

Also, considering your new workplace it is your solemn duty to not leave until you have used the following line at least once:
"No mam, I'm not a gynecologist, but I can have a look."

You are doing a really important job- and I know how important it is to your self-image to feel like you are achieving something.

It's totally a real job! Although at Joondalup the anaesthetic staff tend to steal the actual patient moving jobs so I can understand you spend most of your time not doing that.

Interestingly in the first couple of years of the course we get lots of "patients want empathy not sympathy" stuff drilled in. Unfortunately I'm not sure that it sticks in most cases.

"after unsuccessfully applying for a few things (mostly simple lab jobs that I didn't really want that much, but that I thought "well, I don't know what I can do really, but I have a chemistry degree so I guess I might be qualified for something like that", and each failure leading to even less confidence about the next application)" - I'm not sure, that I rightly understand, what you mean under "lab jobs", but if you mean something in the field of science, than you won't be lucky doing like that. you are in a way "overqualified" - I'm right you made two degrees, one in chemistry and other in history or something like that?

if you are overqualified for a job you will never get it. you have to look for something interesting enough for you. only very good institutions/research institutes are willing to hire someone with unusual background.
