I'm going to be completely honest and open in this entry, so be forewarned. In case you have no knowledge of the seasons, summer is almost here. To me, this is both a good thing and a bad thing. It is a good thing in many ways: school's out, I can make more money at work, I can be more relaxed, and I can do more social stuff (okay, I'm being optimistic about that one). All good things. The bad point? Girls. In particular, their modesty or lack thereof.
It seems as though everywhere I look, there are swimsuit ads. If it isn't that, it is girls wearing skimpy, revealing tops with short, tight shorts. And it tears me up inside. Becoming a monk sounds real appealing, to be honest. How are my fellow brothers in Christ (and just guys in general) supposed to not look at a girl lustfully when they make it so darn easy? It takes all the strength I have just to look away and think about something else. Yeah, I know it's getting warmer out. And I also know that many girls have been blessed with beautiful bodies. But the flaunting and exhibition of your bodies is killing me and all the guys you'd probably like to have as true friends.
I hold a higher respect for the girls that exercise caution in picking out what they wear. I thank God for Lesley and her modesty, because so many other college girls don't employ the high standards of purity that she does. I'm not wanting all the girls out there to be a carbon copy of Lesley, but I think it sure is easier for a guy to get to know, like, and love a girl when he sees more of their face and personality than he sees of their...(how should I put this)...attributes.
I hate the fact that the world is making it so hard for a girl to live and dress modestly. I know many girls have complained that shorts are made so short these days. I noticed as I was walking back towards the electronics at Wal-Mart a few weeks ago that skimpy 2-piece swimsuits are the way to go this summer. It's sad that the company who made all these swimsuits forces girls to show off a lot of cleavage and a lot of leg just so they can enjoy the summer in the pool. Ugh. It makes the Puritan lifestyle sound so appealing. Well, alright, I won't go THAT far. :) Just joking!
Anyway, I sure hope there's someone out there who agrees with me, guy or girl. Leave me message if you agree with anything I've said. In fact, leave me a message even if you DON'T agree with anything I've said! (I haven't had a comment in here in ages, so humor me.) I know that guys aren't exactly off the hook on some of the things we wear or don't wear. But it appears to me that this is more of a problem for my gender than it is for our female counterparts.
* To the girls out there who have been dressing more modestly, I want to shake your hand and thank you on behalf of the male gender for not being a stumbling block in our quest for sexual purity.
* To the girls who have been dressing modestly and who feel discouraged because guys don't seem to notice them, trust me - we notice. We are speechless because you've amazed us and proven that girls can be beautiful without showing off what only their husbands should get to enjoy.
* And finally, to the girls who like showing off what they have, I'd just like to kindly ask that you keep us guys in mind when you're buying, putting on, or taking off clothes. We hate when we can't look you in the face because other parts of your body are tempting us with demands for attention. We know there's more to you than just flesh, and that's what we truly would like to have revealed to us.
God bless all.
