The kid looks a little young to be on this ship of fools (fourteen? fifteen? sixteen?), but is sitting up politely and has a notepad out and a pen like this is going to be an Important Professional Conversation.]Good afternoon ( Read more... )

[It's only dawning on her now that her approach was too blunt.] That's correct. Since I'll be meeting so many people here in such a short period, it seemed like a good idea to match basic information to personalities.

[His name itches in the back of her head, but she can't figure out the context, having only read the first one years ago.] Are you particularly notable for anything in your home world, M. St. Just?

Me? No. Not particularly, but many people have heard of my sister and my brother-in-law. Marguerite St. Just, the famous actress of the Comedie Francaise, and Sir Percy Blakeney, the richest man in all of England in his time.

[... all right how do you tell someone you've read about them in the fiction section.] I'd heard your name before, and after I heard your sister's and brother's, I knew why. You're a very brave man.

[That was a surprise.]

Thank you. I wouldn't say the same thing. Tis Percy who is brave.

But you were able to withstand prison and the fear of death for so long and still remain yourself. That's a bravery in itself.

Oh no, you must have me confused with one of the others. I was never imprisoned. Merely under threat. Often.

[Oh. oops.] I think the very fact you'd spend time with Sir Percy under any guise is brave.

[A little chuckle, and a blush.] I can hardly help associating with him, since he married my older sister. But I do try to learn all I can from him. He is a fine example of bravery and good sense.
