Foster Cat

As some of you know, I've put up my details for animal fostering and a rescue has accepted my application - SafeandSound have primarily cats, although they do have some other animals, and they have all of their animals in foster homes rather than in boarding cages so they're always on the look out for another foster home.

My first foster cat turned up yesterday, and he's been settling in.

This is Max, 3 years, and he's a long haired black and white moggie as far as we can tell - he looks large but he's incredibly slim, so a bit of extra food won't hurt him too much. We were destined to have both him and his fellow cat, Sofia, but Sofia went to someone in an emergency and they haven't been able to arrange a time to pick her up. Mind you, we probably won't get her as apparently Sofia, who's 2 years old and a black short hair, was bought into the family to replace Max's sister who was hit and killed by a car, so he's not wildly bothered about her or her about him. In fact, since Max is quite quiet and she isn't, Clare is going to try him as an only cat as it looks he's been a bit bullied over food in the past. The family who have given him up are emigrating

Max is used to large dogs, other cats and LOVES children. Seriously. He came out from under the bed pretty quickly for a cat who's just found his whole world upside down, and then spent a lot of the time investigating while coming back to me for a stroke and a purr and a cuddle. As soon as he found out that I had two kids, he nominated my five year old Caitlyn's bed as his 'home' and spent most of the time snuggled up to her, purring in her ear. In between snuggling and investigation, he was prowling under Alex's (2 years) cot trying to break him out, chirp-mewing to attract his attention. Unfortunately this worked about 4am, so I had a lot of "MUM. MUM! CAT!!!" from Alex, who hadn't realised said cat was supposed to be in the house. On the plus side, he's still sleeping in now as a result. Max, needless to say, is asleep (under my bed again!)

It's going to be an interesting time! Cait was apparently playing with him late last night with a piece of wool and he was as good as gold. And he hasn't found our furry worms on sticks yet either.. :D
