And so summer '09 draws near its end...
To be certain, this has been an interesting summer. So much has happened, and, quite frankly, I had a lot more fun than I'd ever imagined possible. Anyhow, though I might end up regretting this, I'm going to go ahead and make a promise (if to no one but myself) that I'll eventually post a full update, with photos, documenting everything that went down over the course of one of my life's most charmed seasons.
In the meantime, some thank-yous are in order:
God bless Jack and Lauren's standing invitation for a place to sleep in Austin (not to mention myriad other examples of bigheartedness); many thanks to Kevin and Andy G. for hosting an all-night rager of a dance party at their ranch; my best to Jason, Jessica and--well, let's face it--the entire, beautiful Walker family for their munificence, which has been going strong since 2004, but perhaps reached an all-time high when, this June, they allowed Mike Sage and me to attend a certain fiftieth b-day bash; and speaking of Big Mike Sage, thanks so much to him for a) an always-available sleepin'-hole in Baton Rouge and b) a consistent, never-say-die mindset when it comes to making fun trips happen (SA, Longview, and, in the past, Milledgeville); thanks, too, to Megan and Benny for falling in love and inviting us all to such a solid, French Quarter wedding; and a huge thank you to Will Dunn for letting a half-dozen drunken maniacs invade his Uptown digs; and, in the same vein, thanks to Hax and Toups for their ever-inflated air mattress and delicious foodstuffs; I'm grateful as well to Tal for poolside mimosas and, in general, a weekend escape to the Texas Hill Country that was as pleasant and relaxing as it was unexpected; further, a huge thank-you to Cakes, who's hard work along the Texas/Mexico border allowed us to enjoy a nostalgia-bomb on the Corpus Christi beaches; and, without question, most of all, thanks to my mother and father, who in their own very different, very separate ways, made all of this possible.
Other noteworthy happenings:
I'm now eight weeks a non-smoker.
Thanks to, uh, the economy, I've been unemployed since early May.
Friday is Jack's twenty-fourth birthday.
I'm set to return to Milledgeville, or, as we've come to call it, Billionville, on Friday, 8/7. MFA meetings start on Wednesday, classes begin the following Monday. Before I arrive in Georgia, however, I will, of course, have to make a solid Baton Rouge pit-stop. This could occur as early as 7/31 or as late as 8/3.
All right, like I said up top, I'll (someday) post an entry that does all of this justice.
