"Learning to lead, leading to learn"..... Learning Technology Summer Forum 2019
This has been my highlight of 2019! After several speeches at the eLearnign Network conference, and last year at the Learning Technologies exhibition, I was asked this year to present at the Learning Technologies Summer Forum.
I had a couple of chats with Don Taylor and had to submit a short outline of my speech. I decided to adapt a prevous speech called "A Year in the Life of an eLearning Manager" and make this session more about leadership, and we learn to do it.
I had been told that I was in one of the smaller rooms, with about 40 people, so had planned speech, handouts and activities for this number. I rock up on the day and find that so many people signed up, that i'm in the large room for 150. I had a bit of a panic at this point, but Don and Sheila calmed me down.... Sheila made sure that everyone filled up from the front, and Don got more photocopies of the handout made.
As preparation for this I read "How to Own the Room" by Viv Groskop, which I can highly recommend :-)
I broke up the speech with some group activities adn self reflection, and I was so happy that each group presented back and we got a fantastic set of leadership tips and tricks at the end! There were lots of tweets, which was lovely to see....
Once I got over the numcers of people, I really did own the room, I owned the stage, I managed the microphone, I walked around and I was really pleased with my performance. Was a really good feeling :-)
