A pictorial tour of my new place here in Omaha. Please keep your hands and arms inside the carpet ignore the fact that I've not put anything away yet. There's a lot of dusting and cleaning to be done before everything gets put in its right place.
This is what you see from the front door. The doors to the right lead into the sunroom, and to the left you can see the middle room, which I suppose most people would use as a dining room of sorts. I think it's where I'll put my computer and all its accessories. Do you see the wooden things that stick out in the doorway to the next room? Built-in shelves with glass-fronted doors! That was a huge plus in getting this place (as was the hardwood floors throughout, moulding and closet space. Plus, I love old buildings they make me sad).
The sunroom. I intend to make it my ~art studio~
The middle room, with doorways leading to the hall down which is the bathroom and bedroom and to the kitchen. Off to the left, out of frame, are two huge closets (there's also another large closet in the front room).
My lickle galley-style kitchen (which is all I need). I love all the cabinets in it and it came with a pull-out cutting board! So weird (and awesome). I scrubbed it clean about 348794397543 times last night. I'm particular about where I'm cutting my food. I think it's a good thing to be particular about ;).
This is the aforementioned hallway. What's really cool about it is that because it has a door at the front of it, I can decide whether my room has an en suite bathroom or not (there's also a door leading into the bedroom itself)=P.
The bathroom (obviously). I love having a radiator in there, as it means no cold bathroom on those bleak winter mornings. I took a shower last night, and it was amazing. The water pressure was just right and it got hot SUPER fast. A+ for sure!
My room. It's a bit small, but apparently the air mattress is the same size as my bed, and it fits easily with space to move, so I'm good =)
Mum and I went out to dinner after unloading everything yesterday afternoon (mostly because we both needed a margarita after all that work ;D). We'd made a list at the restaurant about everything we'd need, found out where a WalMart was and were going to try to get everything there. Included on this list were a couple bits of furniture (TV stand, desk and something to put the microwave on since where I was going to put it doesn't have an outlet nearby), but I didn't see anything I liked there. Everyone I've talked to here has said that if I'm ever in need of furniture, I should go to the Nebraska Furniture Mart as they had an incredible selection and supercheap prices.
Well, it was about 8.20 when we were getting the last of the groceries and everything else together at WalMart. We called information and found out the Furniture Mart closed at 9 D=
The WalMart we were at was located in Bellevue, which is a suburb located to the south of Omaha and the NFM is at 72nd and Jones in Omaha:
We got everything loaded in and took off from WalMart at 8.33. WOULD WE MAKE IT IN TIME?! ESPECIALLY WITH MY MUM DRIVING?!!?!?!?1 (she's hopeless with directions)
We pulled into the massive complex that is the NFM (seriously, it's like its own little city - it's even got its own Burger King and 6 warehouses) at 8.50. Oh, sweet bb Jesus, don't have locked the doors yet!
They hadn't! Huzzah!
Anyway, I'm such a champ at shopping that I picked out my TV stand and desk and we got checked out at 9.03. What can I say; I know what I like and I get it ;D. They're nice pieces, too, and they only cost $243 and some change, including tax (I think the desk was originally $225 or something to begin with and I got it for $120). I'm going to go back later today or tomorrow and find a stand for the microwave. You really can't beat that place. I could probably spend allllll day in there just browsing around. Seriously, it's awesome. I'm really excited to put the desk and tv stand together, but I know I must do the dusting and mopping first >.>.
There is so much to do still:
-Dust, clean, general tidying up
-Everything in its right place
-Assemble TV stand, desk
-Open chequing account
-Pay OPPD
-Register with the Nebraska DMV, get a new license =D!!! (hopefully).
-Get a job
but I'm really excited about all of it, even the cleaning!
