Bugger. Behind schedule again. Well, if my parents will turn off the internet when they go to bed. But no more! I have the house to myself now until I move out as they left for the airport about an hour ago. And really, shit, cos that means I officially no longer live with my family. Also why does the house always seem quieter when everyone has left for more than day than when it's just empty cos everyone else is out?
So, anyway
• Day 11 - A movie that changed your opinion about something
I’m not sure I can claim a movie has ever really changed my mind about anything. Certainly not anything important or life changing. The small things, yeah I suppose, but I’ve certainly never come to any major epiphanies after watching a film.
For example,
The Holiday (2006) changed my mind about whether I found Jude Law attractive, what with him being all adorable with small children and stuff. That’s about the extent of my mind changing.
With that in mind, I pick:
The Losers (2010)
This film changed my mind about Chris Evans. Before I saw this film I was all “Chris Evans? That guy who played Johnny Storm? THAT’S who you’ve cast as Cap?? REALLY?!” what with Captain America being my favourite Marvel character and all (yeah, it came as something of a shock to me to). And then after watching it I was like “Ok, he can be Steve. I’ll allow it.”
I’m not really sure why, because the character he plays in it, Jensen, isn’t really anything like Cap, apart from being blond. It’s just one of those things. Sometimes the most unrelated things can convince me of an actors rightness for the part (another sort of example, I wasn’t sure about David Tennant as The Doctor until I saw the first photos of him in costume, and then I was like, “Yeah, he’s The Doctor”) I guess it was the chance to see Chris Evans in action a bit more, getting to see him stretch his acting muscles a little.
So that was the mind changing part. Now to talk about the film part. If you looked at the posters and thought “That looks a bit like the A-Team” then… well you’d be pretty accurate. The film is a bit like the A-Team in that a group of soldiers get framed for a crime they didn’t commit and thus seek revenge on the person that set them up. There is a little less crazy plans and a little more realism (although if you were to see the “Journey” scene, you may not agree - incidentally one of the funniest scenes in the whole damn movie).
Youtube:
www.youtube.com/watchIt’s a very good action movie; shit gets blown up, people get shot, there is a certain amount of character development (not enough to slow the movie down completely, but certainly enough to make you actually care about the characters). It’s based on a comic that I have yet to get round to reading, but there are some nice comic book touches in the film, shots that are obviously panels in the comic. It’s not going to tax your brain, but it does exactly what I want an action movie to do: entertain me and give me a couple of hours of escapism. Plus there is Jeffrey Dean Morgan, so yay.
