Film Reviews of Many

Well as threatened promised in my post a few weeks ago, my review of the myriad James Spader films I have watched since handing in my dissertation, a bit later than planned as my exams got in the way of me posting it. Well, I say myriad. I mean 12. Beware. Here Be Spoilers. I’m just guessing that most of you have no inclination to see any of these ( Read more... )

brain-breakingly good, my brain - see how she malfunctions, the spade, essayish things

If it is James' tattoo you are interested in seeing you have to watch both "Driftwood" and "The Stickup"; it appears in all its changed glory in these two films. The tat went from being a small spade to something much larger and rather odd. "Driftwood" is a quiet character study more than anything...but James is in the buff several times in this one (not a surprise if you are a fan of James') and the tattoo is not covered up. "The Stickup" is a fun little cop and robber flick written and directed by the same person who did both "Jacks Back" and "I Witness". James' lady love, Leslie Stefanson, over the last eight years or so is his co-star in "The Stickup" and the sparks do fly.

If you are thinking slash watch "I Witness" because he and Jeff Daniels' character definitely have something going on. It is interesting to note how often James clicks with his male co-stars thus creating an interesting undercurrent...sometimes sexual and sometimes not, but always interesting.

Here is my list of awesomeness using your films and adding four more films (from worst to best).

Shadow of Fear
Supernova
Alien Hunter (starts well, but fall apart once the orb is opened...James' now girlfriend is in this film too)
The Music of Chance
Dream Lover (fast forward through the dream sequences and it improves the film greatly)
Less Than Zero (only for the scenes involving either James or Robert)
The Watcher
Tuff Turf
Jacks Back
Storyville (not on your watched list)
Crash
True Colors (not on your watched list)
Stargate
The Stickup (not on your watched list)
Bad Influence
White Palace
Secretary
sex, lies, and videotape

Thanks for the heads up. Those films are all on my to watch list, but I set my self a strict limit of only getting DVDs that were less than about £5 from Amazon up to a total of £50 (apart from Tuff Turf because I love it so much). Next time I go on a spending spree I'll be sure to get those ones.

Hmm... I might just try fast forwarding through Dream Lover and see.

Totally agree with you on Less Than Zero. My housemates and I are having a Robert Downey Junior Day next, and we can't decide whether to watch it or not.
