The Hunger Game Trilogy by Suzanne Collins: The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. Being that I started this series less than a week ago, you can assume that I enjoyed it. I'm not typically a fan of book series because as it is I get so attached to characters that getting to know them even better over a number of novels makes it difficult to let go when they ultimately come to an end.

I can't really get into the last two books without giving away a lot of the first book. If you've been living under a rock, here's the idea behind The Hunger Games: At the center (not literal center) of the world of Panem is the Capitol. Beyond the city walls are thirteen districts, each with their own industry. Decades ago uprisings began against the capitol and ultimately District 13 is wiped off the map, to show all other districts that everyone is expendable. To keep this point fresh in the minds of district residents, each year, the capitol puts on the hunger games. Two tributes (one boy and one girl, ages 12-18) are taken from each district. The 24 are trained in the art of war and enter into an arena where their job is to survive. Each year the game makers change the venue, it could be a desert, arctic tundra, or any other biome. Weapons may be provided or the players may have to rely on the surroundings to forge their own. They must also not fall prey to traps hidden within the game by the makers. The event is broadcast live on television to all of Panem. The tributes must use their strengths and cunning to navigate their way through the course and ultimately only one will walk out of the course alive and be named the victor.
