With our money from Christmas (and not having to pay for homeowners out of pocket) we got an iheater. It's an infrared heater to help keep the house warmer and costs down. I don't know if this makes as much sense for people who have electric heat, but we use fuel oil and even though we're on the budget plan, it's hard to stomach the fill ups. We'll see how the energy bill goes up next month, but so far the house is a few degrees to 8 degrees warmer and the furnace isn't kicking on. We keep the thermostat set at a chilly 60, so it's been nice to not be frigid in our own home, especially when it's freezing in the ICU and I'm basically cold all the damn time.
We got the one that can heat up to 1500 sq feet, but you have the option to decrease energy output by decreasing it to 500. It's safe with pets because it isn't hot to the touch and it automatically turns off if it gets knocked over. It's super lightweight and on wheels so easily moves from room to room.
Man, I'm old. I'm writing in my journal about a heater. Well, I'm off to clean, pay some bills, and sew an apron. I may as well get out my walker and depends. Sheesh.
*edit* At least I make myself feel younger by cleaning in heels and dancing to dirty music...;)
