"Deadlock," by Robert Liparulo. I love me some Robert Liparulo; he's a fairly new author so I have to pace myself since he only has a handful of books out.
Brendan Page is a former special-forces veteran who now specializes in training soldiers for combat, creating the newest technology and weapons to make them even more efficient and vicious. Hutch is a journalist who had previously been trapped in the Canadian wilderness fighting Page's son. Hutch has become obsessed with getting enough dirt on Page to send him away, and is invited to the training compound for an interview. After some mild threats, Page wants to show Hutch just how serious he is that Hutch stop fishing for evidence, when a little scare escalates and a hit is placed on Hutch and his family. Cool and interesting thriller.
