"Never Let Me Go," by Kazuo Ishiguro. Think "The Island," meets any Lois Lowry book, but with monotone narrative and no attachment to the characters. I only found out looking for a cover art picture that this was made into a movie starring Keira Knightley this year. Not something I'd like to see, far more sci-fi than I really care for. It's been done more than once, the only parts that make it seem fresh end up having no meaning at all.
