'The Wednesday Letters' by Jason F. Wright. I am so in love, L-O-V-E, with this book which I read all this afternoon.
When Laurel and Jack Cooper die in each other's arms one night, their children find boxes and boxes of letters from Jack to Laurel spanning their forty year marriage. These characters were so real for me that it almost felt an invasion of privacy. Jack wrote a letter every Wednesday without fail; I just think it's a really wonderfully romantic idea. Not only did the letters reveal some secrets and unexpected personality quirks that their children knew nothing about, they also talked about the mundane and silly nonsense that really means the most. I was happy reading those little bits that would mean nothing to anyone but them. This is a story of forgiveness, of compassion, selflessness, and keeping promises. Sometimes things end up the way they are supposed to be. There was kind of a cool thing with flashlights. It's just the kind of marriage everyone should aspire to have. I guess the same could be said for the funeral, everyone wants to make a difference in the lives of those around them, you definitely know how much of an impact someone's had by standing room only at their funeral and endless stories of generosity.
Also, I was super excited when I set the book down to get a drink that there was an envelope glued into the back cover with one last letter.
A super fantastical read for me.
