sunrise sunset

there was the most beautiful sunset tonight. the sky was pale blue and the clouds were long and skinny like brush strokes and glowed peach and lavender. the funny thing is, all i could think was how fake it looked. certainly if someone painted a sunset like this, the artist would be chastised for completely missing the mark, nobody would buy that painting. i think if you described a sunset to someone who had never seen one and they tried to replicate it, it might have looked like this. then of course you would laugh at them and be all 'no idiot, you are such crap.' and then they would cry and go back to living in the cave which was the reason they hadn't seen one in the first place. and you would be sad for awhile knowing everything they were missing in the outside world, but geez if they are gonna take criticism so harshly, they'll never make it in society anyway. at least that's what you tell yourself to justify it so you can sleep at night, but as you drift off your thoughts return to them and the two of you walk hand and hand into the fake-ass sunset. the next morning you wake up and buy them one of those moving images pictures of a sunset on the water to hang on their cave wall, ya know, to make it homier. but of course they don't have any outlets so it was moot, but they say they appreciate the thought anyway even though they said it with a sarcastic undertone and you begin to question where this attitude is coming from. but you bite your tongue as they show you back to the cave entrance until you step in bat guano and can hold back no longer. you unleash all your hate for cave people in one long chain of slurs without taking a breath. loin cloth monkey they ask? i thought you were bigger than that they say indignantly as they roll the rock back in front of the opening leaving you alone out in the crisp evening air. you turn from the mountain to see the sun setting over the trees. now that is a sunset you mutter to yourself as you trudge back down the hill and tuck yourself and your family in safely for the night. while you sleep the cave people slaughter your village with shards of the moving picture thingy you had presented as a gift. are you happy now. are ya?

now that's just my guess as to what would happen if you described a sunset to a cave person. i feel it’s a fairly accurate depiction based on years of bullshittery. honestly, i don't know any cave people in real life and i certainly don't think anybody's buying those moving pictures so no need to worry.

shall i go on? no i think i shalt not.
