After a recent "get to know your e-reader" workshop, I can totally picture this. It seemed like well-meaning folks purchased them for their friends and family members who are readers, but didn't think about the whole "making it go" aspect. Based on what I saw at the workshop, most people were open to using e-readers, but they were intimidated by setting it up. Many arrived with their device in the original shipping box, and one man said he planned to send it back as soon as he left. I wasn't sitting close enough to hear his reason(s) for it, but I think it was a case of being on dial-up at home and the Kindle he had only worked on WiFi, not 3G, which doesn't even require a computer in order to download books.
