HijiNKS Ensue: "Everybody shut the hell up forever. I found the remote. Ooh, 'Top Chef' is on." Trust me, in context, it's funny. ;)

Cracked: 5 Things TV Writers Apparently Believe About Smart People

Snurched from janedavitt, and definitely worth a read. Though it doesn't seem to pick up on what I think the real reason for having so many "super smart" ( Read more... )

I stopped watching at least 2 seasons ago, maybe more. I'm not sure. *g* I couldn't stand when they turned Dean into a sex-crazed, sexist jerk. lol I know most people saw him that way all along, but I never did until they began writing him that way in season 3. I think I still watched at least some of season 4, but I *hated* Dean and didn't like Sam much anymore either.

I felt that they changed the characters, especially Dean, in a way that did not make sense for his character. I didn't think it was character growth at all, but just a complete 180 in how they were writing the character, perhaps in part so that he would be who fandom wanted him to be. I noticed that a lot on that show. A lot of fandom thought John was an asshole and a terrible, abusive asshole and suddenly they began retconning him to be that.

I know most people didn't see it that way in either case, but it was the Dean thing that caused me to stop watching. When I really just couldn't stand to see him on the screen anymore, I had to stop watching. S

[I don't even know who Rufus is. *g*]

I do think Supernatural is an interesting case of when TPTB listen to fans too much, which is pretty rare. There's way too many "inside jokes" that would probably be over the heads of the general viewer.

It's one thing for fans to get meta and run with wild speculation that makes no real sense, but we've seen both onscreen with Supernatural.

Rufus is another hunter who's appeared a few times. This season, they had an episode where we didn't see Dean and Sam much, but Bobby and Rufus doing a pretty funny "Cranky Old Hunters" thing. As things originally were set up, I could have easily seen Sam and Dean ending up like them, but adding in the Apocalypse storyline changed both the characters and the show drastically and I can't quite see it anymore. At this point, I'd rather watch Bobby and Rufus in a "Cranky Old Hunters" spinoff.

hehe I don't know if I would or not. I hated the episodes in earlier seasons that seemed to center around other hunters. Actually, to be honest, I *hated* the whole "network of hunters" storyline. A few isolated hunters, some of whom had found each other--that was good. This whole semi-organized network of hunters who all know each other? I felt it changed the character of the show in a way I didn't like. OTOH, I loved Bobby, so I might like a show about him. Actually, if John hadn't been killed off, I'd have watched the John & Bobby show. :-)

I don't think the "network" idea went over all that well. The bar that was their apparent center of operations was burned down and even though we saw some of those characters again, it was as hunters Sam and Dean had worked with before and not as part of a hunter network.

Rufus is as cranky as Bobby can be sometimes, so you might like him. You can see a clip here from his most recent appearance, which was earlier this season. I think I'm also partial to him because I like the actor (Steven Williams), who's been acting for over 30 years and I swear the man barely ages. He was also in 3 episodes of SG-1 as General Vidrine, so I get a Stargate Actor Bingo. ;)

Oooh, General Vidrine. I rememeber him (I think *g*). I don't think I can ever watch SPN again though. It was very hard to give it up. I had to go cold turkey. *g* Thanks for the clip.
