Several months ago, one of the local school librarians borrowed my printout of guide I use to weed out the collection (at this point, it's more of a teaching tool as well as backup if any justification is needed). She was determined to tackle it in her own library. For you librarians playing along, it's the free
CREW system from the Texas State Library, though I think the subtitle should be "The Art of Letting Go".
She brought it back in today with a rather sheepish admission she just didn't have the guts to do it, and pulled maybe one book due to damage. Though she's pretty sure a co-worker took pity on her and weeded some while she was out on vacation. *g*
She knows I watch sci fi stuff, and she asked if I'd ever heard of a show called Firefly. My response: "You know there's a movie too? We have it if you don't want to buy or rent it." All the sci fi/fantasy geeks just automatically ask for my help when they want something to read or watch. I have absolutely no idea why.
I also managed to pimp out Farscape, Supernatural, Dr. Horrible, The Guild, and several other things. She has a list now. She was also very happy we have most of the recommendations in the library, so she can place a hold online when she's ready for them, plus two week checkout = win for watching TV show DVDs.
I was joking with her about someone needed to get a speeding ticket and sentenced to community service because we really need the carpet vacuumed. While she was still there, someone came in to ask if they could do their CS hours at the library, and I thought the school librarian was going to get whiplash when she heard that conversation. I like that sort of coincidence.
Um... let's just throw this out there... someone needs to give us the money to build our new building. [waits for the $1.5 million check]
