Quick version:
1. Bobby rules. I really need to get a Bobby icon. I'm left wondering what Bobby saw/thought when Dean got a ride on the Angel Superhighway.

2. Would it be crude to say "Ding dong, the witch is dead!"? Because I totally did.

3. "Are they going to end it there... dammit, they are. Kripke, you bastard, etcetera."

The longer version:

I'm sure some will gripe about yet another female character being evil and/or biting the dust. Yeah, I can see that, but how many male characters have also been evil and/or bit the dust? This show isn't well set up for a lot of recurring characters, unless they're amongst the Dark Side and can easily pop up when needed. The angels can do that as well, but honestly, can we really say they're all that angelic from humanity's POV? Would be nice to have a character like Bobby, but female... and yeah, now I kinda squicked myself out there. If anyone links me to Bobby genderbending fic, I will have to hurt you.

They came awfully close to a good female recurring character, but then everyone had TSTL moments and she died. [sigh] Though maybe she's still in play somehow in The Great Beyond? Yeah, I could work with that.

Ruby would have to have been even more badass than YED to have been in on the secret of the seals (or simply a true believer chump), though I get the impression it was more that each of the three knew a small part they had to play to bust their boss out of jail, but didn't see the big picture. Though I do have a niggle that Ruby being in on it from the start wasn't a given by TPTB. They left options open so it could have played out that everything she did, good and bad, was to get Sam to the point of being able to kill Lilith, with both of them ignorant it would break the final seal, not stop it.

I have to wonder if maybe they intended Ruby to be (mostly) good, but either the storyline shifted, or the initial negative reaction to the idea of what was then two female regulars added to the cast on network orders made them change their minds. Perhaps even this was intended to clear the slate of what the network made them do to get a renewal. Or some sort of combo platter with an unknown number of sides and a fruity drink with an umbrella. It definitely seemed to me that they pulled out all the stops to make Ruby even more unlikeable this season, though I know she has her fans like any other character.

I also have to wonder about the change of meat sack for Lilith. Part of the creep factor was having a little kid being uber evil under the sheerest veneer of being childlike. I know they couldn't have played out the "prophecy" about Sam and Lilith if she'd been a little kid, because, ick, but rethink the final conflict with a little girl standing in place of the adult Lilith. Did they not want to go back to a child actor because it might really disturb some people about Sam killing the kid Lilith's wearing around, even though he killed an innocent woman, fully aware of what was happening to her, just to feed his need for demon blood. But that wasn't onscreen, the confrontation with Lilith had to be. I felt a bit cheated that we got the "young and hot" model versus the "very young and creepy as hell" version.

Things that didn't make sense: (1) Why didn't Sam just pull the demon out of the nurse instead of letting the demon guilt him with her life? I don't think she was under demon control for long, so she probably would have been OK. I know plotwise, it was so she could be the snack that totally made Sam into a monster, but for it not be be even given a moment's thought was really weird. (2) Was it just me, or was the final battle with Lilith kinda lame after all the buildup? No expelled smoke or anything else we've come to expect, so is it possible she's really and truly dead, or was it just her vessel had to die to acquire the Get Out of Jail Free card?

Still must mull over more thinky thoughts.
