PATRON: [returns the DVD of The Dresden Files series] Do you have the second season?
ME: No, I'm sorry, there was only one season.
PATRON: What?! [squinty eyed look] Which channel was it on?
ME: Sci Fi.
PATRON: That explains it.

I also still haven't convinced one guy that I'm not holding back on DVDs of Supernatural's fourth season ( Read more... )

ADV's main focus was on anime, and due to the costs of dubbing, subtitles, etc., those can be pretty pricey. I think they got stuck in that mode.

I have no idea why the studio went with them for Farscape, but they were releasing them with two episodes to a disc in the first version, like they used to do with video tapes, but charging just as much a other companies would for a four episode disc. Even after they redid them, they still were using bulky packaging and charging outrageous prices.

I'm hoping they manage to get them re-released in a format like the Stargate DVDs are now. The prices are pretty reasonable and the slim packs don't take up much space.

I keep hoping Doctor Who and Torchwood will finally drop a bit on the price, but even the first season of DW hasn't really dropped. Even used sets are pricey. It's very similar to the pay TV channel prices, such as a season of shows from Showtime or HBO.

I can surf the net for deals with library money. I told the library's advisory board I was doing exactly that during the holiday season because there were such great sales at the time. They certainly like the idea of stretching our dollars. ;)
