My foray through my discount Paramount+ subscription continues with ST: PicardMy interest in this is much more nostalgia driven than my interest in Star Trek in general, because ST:TNG was my true entry point to Trek, even though I did watch TOS shortly before it TNG started. To put it in context, I was in high school at the time ( Read more... )

I liked Seven back in her Voyager days, but the catsuits were always frustrating. Also frustrating was the last minute "Seven and Chakotay are dating!" which was basically came out of nowhere:

I've heard a rumor that Jeri Ryan was dating Brannon Braga at the time, and someone said he'd never write her character in a relationship as a result, so Seven/Chakotay happened with no buildup as a response to a sort of dare in the finale where nothing real would come of it.

There was no buildup to the scene with Seven and Raffi either, but I've read the actresses had appeared at cons together and the fans, as they often do, said something about they'd make a great couple. Apparently the actresses agreed, but I'm not sure how much of that was coming directly from them or if the writers intended it.

They did confirm Seven was into women before that, but it seems it was too subtle for some.

One thing I haven't thought about with Q... I think I would like seeing Seven verbally sparring with him or something. I know he was on Voyager, but I can't recall how that interaction went with Seven. I've been watching some episodes in syndication, but I haven't come across those recently. They hold up pretty well for me, but that might be because the 90s Star Trek aesthetic is so familiar to me.

I had completely forgotten there was anything between Seven and Chakotay. Utterly.

Oddly, I can't really remember Q in Voyager either! I looked up the episodes, and they sound kinda vaguely familiar maybe? I think I didn't like them much.

I think most forgot it, unless they were already shipping them. IIRC, she was testing out human relationships on the holodeck, and started having feelings for Chakotay in one of the simulations. You know, as you do on Star Trek. :)

I think the actual extent of the real world relationship was just in the finale. I think there was also a bit from another timeline where they learned the two of them had been married.

I personally thought they were going to have a Seven/Doctor relationship. If Robert Picardo is up for it, they could have his Doctor guest star on Picard, or even Discovery. Just handwave that he wanted to experience humanity by "aging" and you're set.

I'm wondering if when Q appears on Picard, they'll make references to appearances in other series.

Q: Sisko hit me!

Picard: You mean that was an option?

Seven: Punching Q is always an option.
