Doesn't look like I've posted anything about this show since I went on a salty rant about
the pilot in 2017. I did eventually watch the first two seasons on DVD via the library, and while it improved on some points in the second season. I liked some bits better than others, but wasn't completely sold. But then I recall early TNG was nigh unwatchable, so if it's not bad, it's better than a lot of shows.
One of the deals for Prime Day was getting Paramount+ for 99 cents a month for up to two months, Might as well watch the third season, and see what else I can find, right?
I did like it overall simply because it's less looking into Star Trek's past and finally seeing the future. It's due to the crew needing to time travel for Plot Reasons, and they jump over 900 years into the future, which puts it past any of the main events we've seen on previous series.
I like the Found Family trope, and it definitely felt like that went into overdrive this year. The Big Bad and Big Mystery of the season were kind of lame, but both were just reasons to move the characters around on the chess board. Still, there was a lot of wondering how they got from point A to point B, with a high likelihood of it being via plot hole. New characters added, some exited (but might return), but I have to say what really piqued my interest is learning Oded Fehr would be playing a Starfleet admiral. I first saw him in The Mummy, and my opinion of him hasn't really changed since 1999 -- man is hot, and now he's a silver fox.
I do know the series is getting a fourth season, which should have wrapped filming earlier this month, though I'm not sure when it will premiere. This Fall looks likely. There's an opening for Fehr's character to return, but I haven't heard if he will or not. Certainly keeping my fingers crossed on that point, because he definitely improves the scenery.
